Merry Christmas to Urban Fantasy Lovers Everywhere!

December 24, 2009 at 3:34 pm (General) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

To Tempt the Wolf was nominated for The Romance Studio’s Cupid and Psyche Awards (CAPA) and I was furthered nominated as favorite author, which was exciting, to say the least! 🙂

http://www.theromancestudio.com/capa.php

I was thrilled to receive the notice from a fan or otherwise I might not have ever known!

Today my son is doing the proverbial male Christmas shopping trip on Christmas eve. I’m writing on Wolf Fever--1,100 words to go to make word count.

Are you finished with your Christmas shopping? Or do you have to get one last thing today?

So what is everyone having for Christmas Eve dinner? I was going to fix a roast, but there were none to be had. I’m fixing corned beef and cabbage, potatoes and carrots instead. And my son’s girlfriend brought chocolate chip cookies…we’re all set. We’re playing chicken foot dominoes in a little while.

Now we have 40 mph winds of blowing snow and gusts up to 50 mph. Hope Santa doesn’t get blown out of our path! 🙂

So what are you having tonight?

Happy Christmas Eve! And may your world be filled with urban fantasy fun!

Wishing You a Wolfishly Festive Holiday!

December 18, 2009 at 9:33 pm (General) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I used to be known as the bear lady (and still make the award-winning bears). This is my santa bear.

Well now with my wolf series out, I’ve taken on the tag of wolf lady! 🙂

So here’s Penny bear, who is hoarding copies of Destiny of the Wolf and To Tempt the Wolf.  She already gave away her copies of Heart of the Wolf, and is looking forward to the new year and two new books, Deadly Liaisons and Legend of the White Wolf!

So soon, I’ll be having contests–but if you can’t wait, Deadly Liaisons is 33% off the cover price on Amazon right now for preorders.

In the meantime, I wanted to wish everyone, wolf, vampire, and other kinds of shapeshifter lovers a very Merry Christmas and best of the holiday season. 🙂

And if you have the time, hug a shapeshifter! You’ll be glad you did. 🙂

December Update from Deborah Cooke

December 16, 2009 at 10:30 am (Deborah Cooke) (, , , , , )

Well, better late than never! Sorry I didn’t get to this posted n the 15th as planned – it’s been one of those weeks.

But there’s lots of good news! WINTER KISS has been chosen as a Blue Ribbon Favourite Read by the reviewers at Romance Junkies! And WINTER KISS has also been nominated by Romantic Times for their Best ShapeShifter Romance of 2009 award! Woo-HOO!

January will see the release of THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF IRISH ROMANCE. I have a novella in this anthology called “The Ballad of Rosamunde” – Rosamunde was a secondary character in my Jewels of Kinfairlie trilogy, one who was trapped in the realm of Faerie at the end of the series. (Because I, incorrectly, believed that there would be more books in that series, and thus time to give Rosamunde her H.E.A.) Well, she gets her H.E.A. in this novella, which is a huge relief to me. Any of you who remember Rosamunde will guess that she has been a particularly noisy ghost, haunting my office these past years. She is, after all, a pirate queen, and a little more boisterous and unconventional than your average historical romance novel heroine.

Other than that, I’m just writing along. Dragonfire #5, which is Niall’s book and is called WHISPER KISS, will be out next August. I’ll tell you more about it in the new year, but I think you’re really going to like the heroine, Rox. And I’m busily writing Rafferty’s book, tentatively scheduled for an April 2011 release. The angel trilogy is done at my end as well – book #3 in my Claire Delacroix angel series from Tor is called REBEL and will be released in September 2010. No yummy covers to show you yet, but that will probably change in the next couple of months.

Meanwhile, it’s the holidays! I hope you have a lot to celebrate this holiday season, and lots of loved ones close by to share the festitivities with you. All the best to you and yours for 2010 – and may we all always have lots of good books to read.

It’s party time and you are invited!

December 14, 2009 at 10:37 am (General)

Once the victim of scientific experimentation by the Government Control of Supernatural Activities (GSA), Damon doesn’t have a past, and he isn’t sure he has a future. He doesn’t even know if his ability to change from human to wolf is a virus, or magick. But the instant he lays eyes on the pretty cop from the local police force, he knows he has to learn the secrets of his past before they destroy her future.

Krystal is the best animal cop on the police force, hiding magickal talent beneath layers of excuses and quick thinking. For five years she’s tracked Peter Burke, a butcher who steals any form of canine to supplement his dietary needs. The day she saves a wolf from losing his head at the sharp end of an axe, her entire life changes. And then there is Damon, the mysterious, sexy ex-soldier with no memory of his past who awakens fantasies of dark and sensual nights.

But the GSA isn’t finished with Damon, and when the shadowy government agency joins forces with Burke, Krystal too finds her life in jeopardy, the target of men and women led by their own desires. Damon and Krystal must work together to stop evil and destroy years of illegal research.

Hi all.  It’s finally here, the release of Lone Wolf, the second in the Maxey Wizard series.  To celebrate I’m going to be doing some pretty fancy highstepping and having a party.  A party that lasts well through January!

First, tomorrow I’ll be heading over to Bitten By Books, for the release party. I hope you’ll come over and join in. 🙂    RSVP here and you’ll get 25 EXTRA entries into a very special contest.  Some come on over and help save the wolves!

Second, I’ll be kicking off a blog tour that travels all over!  The nice thing about blog tours is you don’t have to leave your chair, and you can still follow along.  I’ll be asking for your help in writing a small freebie for my website, so feel free to join me throughout the entire tour.  For every day you leave a response, you get entered into a drawing.  Plus, there’s a way to get MORE entries as well, so keep watch!  And, just to keep things interesting, I’ll give random prizes away at different blogs as we go through the tour together, so keep commenting, keep thinking about that story!

To keep up on the schedule you can view the calendar here.

So it’s time to Partay!!!!

What Kind of Music Do Shapeshifters Listen To?

December 11, 2009 at 8:20 am (General) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

On Facebook, Barbara Vey wrote:

Barbara Vey Anyone use music for inspiration while writing? Tell me what it is for a blog I’m writing for PW. Thanks!

I was actually asked this question about one of my vampire romantic suspenses. My vampires do not listen to Rock ‘n Roll when they have their gatherings. Too wild, too noisy, too unsettling. I mean, who wants to listen to it without moving to the beat? Try having that luscious vampire sink his teeth into your neck while you’re wiggling about to the music. It would hurt. Big time. So no fun when listening to hot dancing music.

Nice harp or piano music with a mysterious New Age sound works for me. 🙂 And for them. Romantic, sexy, in the mood kind of music. And what about wolf shapeshifters? Adventure music like theme music from The Bourne Identity, Paycheck, Alexander and others that have more of a tone of movement, action, mystery, adventure.  With my Highlander series, I love to listen to the old world themes in a lot of the movies that visited the past. Although I’ve mistakenly picked up a couple of cds for historical movies that had Rock ‘n Roll themes that ruin the whole mood. And I play lots and lots of Celtic music. I love a lot of New Age music that have no vocals. I end up listening to the words instead of the music if they have vocals.

So what should shapeshifters listen to? Whatever gets them in the mood!

Hope everyone is having a super holiday season. I’m sharing sexy Santas all month at:

Picking a story to write…

December 4, 2009 at 2:14 pm (General, Lori Devoti) (, , )

I have been in a weird place the last couple of weeks. First, I haven’t been on deadline. It has been MONTHS since I wasn’t on deadline. This, I’m afraid, left me in a kind of euphoric stupor…yay! no deadlines….plenty of time to do…nothing.

But then time keeps moving–darn it. And I do have things to do. I have a class I’ll be teaching in June for Write by the Lake, a manuscript to revise (not contracted, but two editors requested revisions), and a short story for my debut at Book View Cafe (I’m giving away a short story in January…assuming I get it written.), and I bought two new writing programs to play with…Snowflake and Liquid Story Binder.

I can not tell you how much time I have spent playing learning Liquid Story Binder. BUT it has been work…it HAS. Except, there’s a problem…I have plotted two stories and decided neither of them are right for the free story I need to write. The first turned out to be a novel and not even a romance novel. The second a Nocturne Bite. And because of contract considerations I can’t publish a story appropriate for a Bite without first submitting it to Nocturne. So, back to the drawing board again. I need something different…something fun, maybe almost experimental (for me) and not so complicated I turn the thing into a novel.

This just isn’t as easy as it sounds….but I think I have it…and hopefully, next week I WILL write it.

How about you? When thinking up stories which is the bigger issue…too many ideas or not enough?

Oh and check out my covers! Three, count ’em three….

Lured, January 2010 Nocturne Bite--Werewolf paranormal romance,   The Hellhound King, Silhouette Nocturne, February 2010, Hellhound shapeshifer romance   Amazon Queen, Pocket Juno, May 2010, urban fantasy w/shapeshifters

Lone Wolf – December 15 release

December 2, 2009 at 9:51 am (General)

Wow, it’s snuck up on me!  How is it that it’s already December 2nd and I haven’t told you about my new release?  I was supposed to post two days ago but I think I’m running behind the power curve and I apologize!

For those who read Tigress by the Tail, this is book 2 in the Maxey Wizard series.  For those who didn’t read Tigress, well, now’s your chance to check out a fascinating series where magic and shifters meet.

And don’t you just LOVE that cover? I just love this cover artist! Super job!

Once the victim of scientific experimentation by the Government Control of Supernatural Activities (GSA), Damon doesn’t have a past, and he isn’t sure he has a future. He doesn’t even know if his ability to change from human to wolf is a virus, or magick. Lone Wolf will be available at AllRomanceEbooks.com – so get your e-readers dusted off and ready!  Here’s a little teaser to get you started!

Giving in to instinct, she licked her bottom lip, then teased it with the edges of her teeth, trying to ease the burning sensation of need.  The need to press her mouth against his.

His eyes followed the motion.  The sound of a soft growl rolled on the night’s breeze.  Her body gave an unexpected shiver.

The wolf.  The wolf must be able to smell them and didn’t like being left alone.  Odd how the growl had echoed around them, giving the impression it had come from Damon.

She shook the thought away and motioned toward her door, breaking the connection of his gaze.  “There’s my house.”

He turned and escorted her to the door, his arm never leaving her waist.

She searched for something to say, but the blood in her body was definitely not reaching her brain.  They arrived at her door and she turned to face him.  “Thanks for walking me home.”  Her voice cracked and she cleared her throat.

He moved a step closer, crowding her against the hard, cold wood of her door.

“My pleasure,” he murmured.

The sounds of the night disappeared, with only the beat of her heart echoing in her ears.  Damon’s molten eyes rested on her lips and he dipped close.  Heat from his body burned every where he touched, filling her with an aching need deep in her very core.  Her muscles turned liquid, waiting.  Hoping.  He leaned in, one hand rested on the door beside her head.

“Definitely my pleasure,” he murmured again.  He nuzzled her cheek, the soft edge of the day’s beard brushed against her skin.

She tipped her head back, savoring the sensual touch, ignoring the shiver travelling through her body.

His breath feathered across her face, hot and inviting.   His masculine scent rolled over her, the same as the wolf’s growl had.  Low, soft.  Hot.

He closed the last excruciating inches, and when his lips finally touched hers, she almost moaned with relief.  His first touch was gentle.  His mouth was hot, burning her with his soft, sensuous touch.  She’d expected hot, maybe even hungry.  This romantic, almost worshipful kiss destroyed her reason.  A soft whimper rose in her throat filled with craving. More.

At long last, he opened his mouth, as though sipping a rare vintage wine.  He tested, tasting.  She groaned, opening to him, wanting more.  His tongue delved in and his taste exploded inside her.  Wild, masculine, hungry.   Their tongues tangled in unison, and she tasted his power, his masculinity.  It was a part of him, deep inside.  A power she knew had to be magick.  It swirled around her, inside her, stealing every vestige of her reason and breath.  Her head spun, sensations exploding throughout her body.  She arched toward him, needing, aching.  One large hand burned at her waist while the other still rested on the door by her head.

More.  Please more.

Her own magick pushed inside her, hungry to escape, to wrap him in its touch, to own him and mark him as hers. Mark him?  Something about this kiss wasn’t normal, but her fogged brain couldn’t make out what it was.  For this single moment in time he was her one and only reason for being.  He was her breath, and her heartbeat.   And she liked it.  No, she loved it, and needed more.

Damon slid his hand from the door, tangling it in her hair, angling her head to go even deeper.  He hadn’t intended to kiss her, but the instant he’d seen her teeth teasing her lip, he’d lost all control.  Now, her heated body pressed against his, driving the animal inside of him wild.   The more he touched her, the more the wolf inside growled, demanding more.  Her taste drove him to the very brink of control, exploding along his taste buds, drugging him with an insane need to drink more of her.  He felt her knees buckle and he yanked her close, her body now flush with his.

Mine.  The thought whispered in his mind.

From him? Or the animal?

For the first time since he’d awakened in that dank cell, he wasn’t sure there was a difference.

Her scent wrapped around him, like a gentle mist. Soft and sweet, hardened with the sharp edge of desire.  Her breasts pressed against his chest, teasing him with their softness, dragging a moan from his throat.  She was so beautiful.  So soft and feminine, her body molding to his as though built for him.  He slid his hands down her back, cupping the soft muscles of her rear.  He let his fingers tease and massage her, holding her close to him.  He wanted more. He wanted to crawl inside her, to be a part of her.  He wedged one knee between her legs, pushing her thighs apart.  She moved willingly, groaning her desire when he pulled her tight against his thigh.

His lips left hers, trailing down her cheek, burying his lips against her neck. Yes, hissed the wolf instincts.  His gums itched and his fangs descended.  Damon tried to shove the instincts back, to fight his thirst for her kiss, the thirst for her taste.  He scraped the tips of the canines against her flesh and she moaned, tipping her head back.  Such sweet submission.

A growl rolled from his chest.  Hunger twisted inside him as his lips closed over her throat.  An image of his teeth slicing into that sweet flesh flashed in his mind, blood oozing from the wound.  He needed her, wanted her, was starved for the sweet wine of her blood.

Blood?

Horrified at the thoughts in his mind, he yanked away, releasing her so quick she stumbled against the door.  He spun away, dragging his hands through his hair.
