Here is the story–I was running out of contracted books to write–I am nearly finished writing The Highland Wolf in Paradise–only 7500 words to go–and so I’ve got to get a proposal to my editor. I submitted the proposal for 3 more wolf tales, Tom’s story and two more Highland wolf tales included.

She said she wanted me to think about what I’d do for the future, something different, so I researched jaguars and proposed that I write a series of jaguar shifters–my thinking–they’re predators like wolves, beautiful creatures when in their predatory form, territorial, but they don’t believe in family, like wolves do, or mate for life. So my shifters would have to be different–fighting their cat nature to take a mate for life. That’s because though I want to create the stories as realistic as possible, I need the HEA for romance. So that’s what I proposed for the future!

I received the call from my editor after she went to the editorial board, and was thankfully off Friday when she called.

Sourcebooks bought all 6 books!!! The…

Jaguars are among the many species which will have habitat protected under a new proposal to protect the Patanal region of Brazil from further sugar cane development. Photo: Getty Images.three jaguar shifter stories.
Now I need to write up a proposal for the story idea for the 1st of the jaguar shifter stories and it might be coming out in the spring next year. That depends on how fast I can write it! Anyway, I’ve got to work on that as soon as I finish The Highland Wolf in Paradise. I’m way ahead on deadline, so I can do this! I think this book isn’t even due until next year!

So what do you think? Ready for some more wolves, and a few sexy jaguars too?

My wolves are eying a cat (big cat) who’s not in the picture. But you can see with their narrowed eyes, they aren’t really happy.

Such is the case with some canines and felines. Which in the wild can be understandable. They’re both predators and as such, both hunt for much the same food. And they’re territorial also.

But the difference is that wolves live in packs, most cats don’t. Big cats, that is. Except for lions and their pride. But that’s a bit skewed because the male has a harem. Not at all fair to all the damsels to my way of thinking.

So the cat shifter will have to make some adjustments if he’s to find a mate and live happily ever after. He can’t be all cat.

My cats and dogs loved each other. But big cats? As in shifters? They know werewolves don’t exist. And werewolves? No way is there any such thing as a jaguar shifter.

So what would happen if the two should meet? Trouble.

Because they’re territorial. The same as when a wolf strays into another pack’s territory.

There’s bound to be trouble.

And that’s how it all begins. A bunch of wolf packs, and then…

A jaguar…

New Dragon YA Site

February 22, 2011 at 9:12 am (Deborah Cooke) (, , , )

Hi Everyone –

I’ve been writing like crazy lately, and not keeping up with my blog posts! BUT here’s some good news – I have a new website for my dragon shifter YA series, and it’s live today.

The Dragon Diaries

FLYING BLIND, the first book in the series, will be a June 2011 release, followed by WINGING IT in December 2011 and book 3 in June 2012. Those of you who have been reading my Dragonfire series of paranormal romances – featuring dragon shifter heroes – will have met Zoë. This YA series focuses on Zoë’s coming of age and coming into her powers as the new Wyvern. The previous Wyvern – Sophie – also gets her HEA in this trilogy.
