New Dragon YA Site

February 22, 2011 at 9:12 am (Deborah Cooke) (, , , )

Hi Everyone –

I’ve been writing like crazy lately, and not keeping up with my blog posts! BUT here’s some good news – I have a new website for my dragon shifter YA series, and it’s live today.

The Dragon Diaries

FLYING BLIND, the first book in the series, will be a June 2011 release, followed by WINGING IT in December 2011 and book 3 in June 2012. Those of you who have been reading my Dragonfire series of paranormal romances – featuring dragon shifter heroes – will have met Zoë. This YA series focuses on Zoë’s coming of age and coming into her powers as the new Wyvern. The previous Wyvern – Sophie – also gets her HEA in this trilogy.

More Dragonfire!

August 4, 2010 at 9:23 am (Deborah Cooke, New Releases) (, , , , , , )

Hi everyone!

I’ve been a slacker in the blogosphere, but that’s because I’ve been writing. This week my new Dragonfire novel – WHISPER KISS by Deborah Cooke – went on sale! Woo HOOO! I’m really excited about this one, because I had so much fun writing Rox and Niall’s story.

Here’s the yummy yummy cover:

There have been lots of great review quotes already. Here’s the Romantic Times review – they gave it 4.5 stars!

“Cooke introduces her most unconventional and inspiring heroine to date with tattoo artist Rox.  Although the sparks are instantaneous between Rox and the Pyr Niall, each has baggage that makes their firestorm problematic. These highly likeable protagonists invest readers immediately in their hazardous journey.  Cooke aces another one!”

You can read an excerpt from WHISPER KISS on my site, right HERE. You can read more quotes on my blog, right HERE. You can visit me on Facebook, right HERE.

Right here and now, I think we should have a contest. (Don’t you?) So, tell me what you think is SEXY about dragon shape shifters – or even about one of my Pyr dragon dudes. I’ll pick a winner on Monday August 9 – the winner will get a signed copy of WHISPER KISS.

Hi all –

The cover for WHISPER KISS, my fifth Dragonfire title, is done. I love it! This is Niall’s book, and will be released August 3, 2010. Have a peek:

Pop over to my blog to read the copy and see a much larger version. For some reason, it’s coming up small here.

Do you love it as much as I do?

December Update from Deborah Cooke

December 16, 2009 at 10:30 am (Deborah Cooke) (, , , , , )

Well, better late than never! Sorry I didn’t get to this posted n the 15th as planned – it’s been one of those weeks.

But there’s lots of good news! WINTER KISS has been chosen as a Blue Ribbon Favourite Read by the reviewers at Romance Junkies! And WINTER KISS has also been nominated by Romantic Times for their Best ShapeShifter Romance of 2009 award! Woo-HOO!

January will see the release of THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF IRISH ROMANCE. I have a novella in this anthology called “The Ballad of Rosamunde” – Rosamunde was a secondary character in my Jewels of Kinfairlie trilogy, one who was trapped in the realm of Faerie at the end of the series. (Because I, incorrectly, believed that there would be more books in that series, and thus time to give Rosamunde her H.E.A.) Well, she gets her H.E.A. in this novella, which is a huge relief to me. Any of you who remember Rosamunde will guess that she has been a particularly noisy ghost, haunting my office these past years. She is, after all, a pirate queen, and a little more boisterous and unconventional than your average historical romance novel heroine.

Other than that, I’m just writing along. Dragonfire #5, which is Niall’s book and is called WHISPER KISS, will be out next August. I’ll tell you more about it in the new year, but I think you’re really going to like the heroine, Rox. And I’m busily writing Rafferty’s book, tentatively scheduled for an April 2011 release. The angel trilogy is done at my end as well – book #3 in my Claire Delacroix angel series from Tor is called REBEL and will be released in September 2010. No yummy covers to show you yet, but that will probably change in the next couple of months.

Meanwhile, it’s the holidays! I hope you have a lot to celebrate this holiday season, and lots of loved ones close by to share the festitivities with you. All the best to you and yours for 2010 – and may we all always have lots of good books to read.

November Update from Deborah Cooke

November 16, 2009 at 6:18 am (Deborah Cooke, General) (, , , , )

What a wild month this has been for me! It says something that I’m looking forward to the hustle and bustle of December and the holidays – for the chance to slow down!

The most exciting news is about WINTER KISS, #4 in my Dragonfire series, which went on sale at the beginning of this month. Delaney and Ginger’s book is doing well out there in the world – it was #20 at Borders and #18 at Barnes and Noble on the mass market romance list for the first week on sale. Yippee! Of course, the cover is gorgeous – it’s there on the right sidebar. I like the book, too (ha!) and so did a lot of reviewers. You can read an excerpt HERE, and check out reviews on my blog HERE. Just choose Dragons from the sidebar to bring up all the Dragonfire-related posts.

As the Dragonfire series progresses, it becomes more likely that readers will pick up a book other than the first book and start reading. Because you might have questions, I’ve added a new feature to my website. I interviewed the Pyr – about firestorms and the Dragon’s Blood Elixir and the history of the Pyr and a bunch of other topics – and put their answers on the site. You can find the links on the index page.

I’m also hip-deep in the residency program. As some of you know, I was selected to be the writer-in-residence at the Toronto Public Library this fall, for the first residency ever focussed on the romance genre. There’s a blog associated with the residency, which is a resource for aspiring romance authors – you can check it out HERE. I’m doing a bunch of critiques for writers, as well, and there’s one more public event left – on November 26, we’ll have a panel discussion called “The Other Side of the Story” with an editor and an agent. Brenda Chin from Harlequin and Amy Moore-Benson from AMB Literary Management will be my guests. If you’re in the GTA, you might want to check it out – more information on the library site HERE.

I’ve also been doing a lot of guest blogs and there are more coming for the week ahead. Pop by my blog for pointers – sometimes there’s a doorprize!

That’s it for this month. Stay warm and be sure you have lots of good books to read!

WINTER KISS – Today’s the Day!

November 3, 2009 at 6:35 am (General) (, , , , )

Finally, it’s here – today’s the day that WINTER KISS, Dragonfire #4, goes on sale. It’s got a gorgeous cover – check it out in the sidebar – and I’m pretty much crazy about the hero, Delaney Shea. (I like those emotionally scarred heroes with noble impulses, don’t you?) I also like how Ginger Sinclair tells Delaney how it is, whether he wants to hear it or not.

Romance Reviews Today calls WINTER KISS “a terrific novel” – read more HERE – and we have two, count ’em TWO, five blue ribbon reviews from Romance Junkies! The first says WINTER KISS is what epic love stories are made from,” while the second says “[s]izzling hot love scenes and explosive emotions make WINTER KISS a must read!” And of course, there was a great review right here on SSR from Penelope Fitzgerald – if you missed it, it’s right HERE.

Check out the back copy and an excerpt on my site HERE. It’s Delaney’s on sale date – do you have your copy of WINTER KISS yet? 🙂 (Yup, I’m just a little bit excited…!)

October Update from Deborah Cooke

October 15, 2009 at 6:20 am (Deborah Cooke) (, , , , , )

What a busy month! But I’m making progress on my To Do list, one item at a time.

First up this month was the opening reception at the Toronto Public Library. I’m the writer-in-residence there for this month and next month, the first time that TPL has offered a residency focussed on the romance genre. The opening reception went really well and I had fun meeting many other authors. Later this month, there will be an online chat hosted by the library as part of their Book Buzz program – that will be on October 28th. And throughout this month and next, I’m building a blog for the library, which is a resource for aspiring writers about writing and publishing in the romance genre. You can check out the blog HERE – I’ll add a link for the online chat closer to the date.

I also just got home from the Emerald City Writers’ Conference hosted by the Greater Seattle RWA chapter, where I taught two workshops and gave the opening keynote. It was a terrific conference, attended by 250 people, and I had a great time. The bookfair was wonderful, not just for the opportunity to meet attendees but because it was open to the public.

Another exciting event this month was a complete surprise. Eloisa James gave my second fallen angel book, GUARDIAN, a great review in her column on the Barnes and Noble site, and made it the feature book for October on the reader forum. I was the guest author on October 5 there, which was a lot of fun.

Back at the home office, Niall’s book has gone into Production. That’s Dragonfire #5 and it will be out next August. I’ll tell you more about it when Delaney’s book has had its moment in the sun.

Because, yes, WINTER KISS will be on sale in just a few short weeks! You can read the excerpt and back copy HERE, an out-take scene HERE, and reviews HERE and HERE. I love this book and hope that you all enjoy it as well.

What’s next on my desk? Rafferty’s book, of course. But no spoilers on that any time soon.

I hope your October is busy and happy, and will be back to talk to you on November 3, when Delaney makes his debut in the world.

Happy reading in the meantime!

BOM: Winter Kiss, Deborah Cooke

September 27, 2009 at 1:11 pm (Book of the Month Club, Deborah Cooke, General, New Releases) (, , , , , , , )

Publisher: Signet Eclipse
Release Date: Nov 3, 2009
ISBN: 978-0-451-22843-7

The mysterious Dragon’s Blood Elixir gives immortality to Magnus, the Pyr’s greatest enemy, and his minions. The Pyr must destroy this source of power, and outcast Delaney vows to complete the quest himself. Delaney was exiled because of his dangerous impulses, and success in eliminating the Elixir will either redeem him or end his suffering.
But his plans don’t take into account his sudden firestorm—or fiery Ginger Sinclair. The firestorm revitalizes Delaney, restoring him to his old self. And when Ginger learns about Delaney’s mission, she realizes she cannot resist a strong man with a noble agenda.

Deborah Cooke continues on her epic journey of the life struggles of the Pyr, she takes a refreshing turn and delves into the possibility of the superior intelligence of infants. The Buddhists in Asia believe that their beloved Dali Lama is reincarnated over and over again throughout the eons, compiling his knowledge and wisdom. Deborah examines that theory with her own oracle in Winter Kiss. The theory that an infant can pass on knowledge given her from a higher source. Whether she understands what she is passing along isn’t quite as important as getting people to listen to her. As we humans struggle with our divine path, so does Delany, rebuking the signs bestowed upon him. Believing his way is the only resolution to the Pyr’s dilemma. In this, Delany struggles against the gift given to him, to carry out the destiny he believes to be true.

I certainly didn’t struggle against the gifts Deborah bestowed upon me in Winter Kiss. I blazed right through this novel, holding my breath most of the time. Panting a little, I admit, through some very hot romantic scenes. Exhaling as the characters started piecing together the signs to solve their latest enigma. Enjoying as I do, reading a novel that, even in the tiniest ways I can relate to my own life. (and no, I’m not referring back to the sexy parts, wink, wink.) Instead, I reflect on the main characters and their love of farming.  Thomas Jefferson once stated, “…cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens…” God’s little signs pointing the way down my own proper path, I suppose.
