REVIEW: In the eighth in her Werewolf series, Spear gives us a love-at-first-sight romance with intense and almost immediate lovemaking that really works with her fascinating characters and exciting action-packed crime drama plot. A great fantasy twist and yet another way to interpret the legend of weres.

She’s also attracted the interest of a certain Jake Silver, who offers her his protection, which pleases her as she’s used to taking care of herself. YA Dragon Shifters

June 19, 2011 at 6:13 am (Deborah Cooke) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Finally stopped back here for a visit – it’s been a crazy spring. Here’s a big wave to everyone!

My paranormal YA series, THE DRAGON DIARIES launched this month. This series is a spin-off of my Dragonfire series, featuring dragon shape shifters. FLYING BLIND is the first book in a trilogy, featuring the coming of age of Zoë. She’s the only dragon shapeshifter and so she should be the Wyvern and have special powers. The problem is that her powers are AWOL and she has no idea how to develop them. In book one, her first shift is triggered so she gets sent to dragon shifter boot camp with the other dragon shifters – where the young dragons discover that it’s up to them to save their kind from a new threat. Book #2, WINGING IT, will be out in December, followed by book #3, BLAZING THE TRAIL, next June.

You can read more about The Dragon Diaries on my website for it, right here. I’m also in the midst of a blog tour this month, so there are reviews, and guest posts and copies of the book to be won – read more here.

In Dragonfire, DARKFIRE KISS was released in May. That’s the story of Rafferty’s firestorm, and it had awesome reviews – you can read about the book right here. There are two more Dragonfire titles scheduled: FLASHFIRE in January 2012 and Dragonfire #8 in October 2012 (no title on that one yet.)

Lots of dragons in my office this year!

In other news, I’ve been republishing some of my Claire Delacroix backlist digitally this year. All of these books are available for Kindle for $2.99, and at Smashwords – they are perking their way to other distributors like Apple, Sony, KOBO and Barnes & Noble.

The Rogues of Ravensmuir is a medieval trilogy, each book featuring a hero with something to hide. These are a bit Gothic, and I’m glad to see them available again – especially with wonderful new covers. They are THE ROGUE, THE SCOUNDREL and THE WARRIOR. You can see the covers and read excerpts here, plus connect to buy links.

Three of my time travels are also available again. LOVE POTION #9, THE MOONSTONE and ONCE UPON A KISS were originally published under my pseudonym Claire Cross and have been unavailable for a long time. It’s exciting to have new covers on them, too. You can read about them right here.

And last but not least, the only wolf shifter book I’ve ever written was a medieval published by Harlequin Historicals called ENCHANTED. I’ve just learned that they’re going to re-release that book digitally in July. This book features a hero cursed to be a wolf half of the time, a fairy tale feel, and a heroine who just doesn’t take no for an answer – especially when her HEA is at stake. I love this book and am quite excited about this. There’s a bit more about it here on my site, but you’ll have to scroll way down.

Edited to add – Actually, Harlequin is going to republish that entire trilogy. Links and stuff on my blog, right here.

Phew! That’s all my news!

Pets in Stories?

April 1, 2011 at 7:36 am (General) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Have you ever read a story where a pet takes over a story? Or really adds to the story? Makes the characters more … human?

Who would have ever thought wolves would have pets?

But there are numerous cases where predator and prey live happily together. 🙂

These big sleepy canines are Irish Wolfhounds and they actually killed wolves, not the other way around. But in Heart of the Highland Wolf, they’re the MacNeill clan’s pets. Why?

Those who had more money could afford to have hunting dogs in days of old. In this case, the Irish used wolfhounds to unseat English knights from their horses.

Since the MacNeills started out in Ireland, that was the reason for their having the wolfhounds. But through the ages, they’ve always been the best of companions.

It’s already April 1st, no fooling, and June is just around the corner! Get ready for hunky Highland wolves!!! 🙂

Hope you have a delightful TGIF. I’m going to try and get some new tires on my car today before I have none on the highway…and have lunch with an author friend. But for now? It’s time to get back to big jungle cats!

So what kind of pet would a jaguar cat have???

Werewolf Artistry

August 27, 2010 at 7:27 am (General) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

I loved this rendition of werewolves in their wolf coats. They don’t look as realistic as wolves, but almost so. Now the question is–is the one on its back the female or the male? And if it was MY story, which would be which, do you think?

In this picture, the one towering over the other appears to be bigger, so to me, it looks like the male. But if it was Leidolf in Seduced by the Wolf, he’d be on his back, enticing Cassie to draw near. 🙂 And then, she’d be in trouble in a fun sort of way! 🙂

The library and the move is a mess. That’s ALL I’ve got to say about it.

I was getting ready to go to work yesterday morning, and look what I found! No, not a wolf, or a werewolf, but the full moon!

I had to stop the car, run into the house, grab my camera, and take a picture. I’m sure my neighbor was watching and thought I was nuts. LOL

Anyway, isn’t it cool???

Okay, one of the problems with using my laptop for doing my blogs (my main computer is still not working), is the screen for my pictures is so small, I can’t figure out what I”m seeing until I upload them to the blog. And since I’m constantly short on time, I don’t have time to reload pictures. So I couldn’t tell if I’ve given him to you all or not. Now, he suits the full moon picture, don’t you think? Werewolf or vampire? 🙂 Definitely, devilish! And even if you’ve seen him before, do you mind seeing him again?

I may have a great deal in the works concerning my Medieval Highland stories, not the werewolf ones, so just a heads up. Hope to hear something in the near future. Is that an oxymoron, or what???

Off to write before it’s time to go to work! Have a super Friday!!!

I Looked for Him…

June 24, 2010 at 8:00 am (General) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

These are my woods—the cornfields. I love them when they’re green like this. When they’re golden, I wish they were green again. 🙂 But I looked for him, hidden in the stalks, waiting.

All I could find was corn. The golden tassels glistened in the late night sun; the green leaves protecting the buttery yellow kernels from hungry predators–like me.

And sunflowers edging the corn-their sunny faces turned this way and that–a clinging beige grasshopper on one, a moth on the other–the signs of summer.

But he wasn’t there–or maybe, he was. Only he wouldn’t come out to play.

I went on a hike through a serene park then. He was there, I’m sure. Waiting for the dark to come, to show himself.

He wasn’t riding this bike though. He was running in his wolf form. Birds were singing throughout the woods, the sound of highway traffic drifted in the intermittent breeze. But without a wolf’s hearing, I couldn’t hear the river flowing down below. A sweet scent wafted in the air. I tried to conjure up what it could be.

It reminded me of the sweet scent of jasmine–the last two hold outs in my garden.

It didn’t matter. It perfumed the air and made the hike even better.

Except for Alaskan-sized mosquitoes–luckily only ran into them at two points on the trail, managed to escape one, not the other although she won’t be biting another soul–it was bugless.

But this is who I was looking for, up and down the trails. He wouldn’t come out to play though. Not when I had a pack of she-wolves with me. 🙂
Sigh. Next time, maybe I’ll catch him.

And he’ll come out to play.

The good part of walking through those woods last night was they made me forget about the hectic week. 🙂 Woods and wolves will do that.

And this is something else that is coming this summer!

My next review is:

    Inez Kelley’s Myla by Moonlight.

visit her on her website, I did!
This new addition certainly doesn’t need my review, I was bowled over by all the rave reviews she has received so far on Myla by Moonlight. I am honored that I have been given the privilege of adding my words to such wonderful reviews.

Excerpt:
Magic bites…  Created at Prince Taric’s birth, Myla is a spell, an enchantment designed to appear and protect him when he needs it most. She has always been content to do her duty…until one night of forbidden passion leaves her longing to experience life—and love—as a mortal woman. Yet the risk is too great. Even if her blood runs as red as his, she can never give him the one thing he needs…

Thank You Inez for leading me on my next adventure.

BOM: Stripped, Marcia Colette

January 25, 2010 at 2:31 pm (Book of the Month Club, Marcia Colette) (, , , , )

“Stripped” by Marcia Colette

Publisher: Samhain Publishing, ltd
Genre: Urban Fantasy
ISBN: 978-1-60504-640-2
Publication Date: August 4, 2009

Someone wants their perfect weapon back, only she’s not coming quietly.

Alexa Wells wants her life back. She’s just not sure what that life was. The memories inside her head—a stripper’s—aren’t hers, and before she humiliates herself onstage one more time, she sets out to collect the scattered pieces of her mind. The trail leads to Boston, charges of identity theft and murder, and the real bombshell: a forgotten werewolf lover who insists she’s a werewolf hybrid.

The main character in this Stripped is someone you have to work at relating to. She is a complex animal for sure. I sat there stunned during some scenes wondering how she could behave the way she did, but then upon greater reflection I realized that I was looking through my eyes at her and not through her eyes. With that epiphany in mind, looking at the reflection in the mirror, I see, an average looking woman, with average capabilities. Other than her skin color I have no clue as to the culture she was raised with. Delve further. Concentrate. Dig deeper. There, just beyond the surface, undiscovered memories, containing a foggy notion of incredible power rippling just beneath that latte colored skin.

I stood there in the mist straining to see, to get my bearings, wondering which direction the road of this author’s mind would lead. With every turning of a page, I went in a direction that was different than the direction my mind was trying to lead. From the relationship with close family/friends to the sensually deprived relationship of her lover, I followed Alexa’s twisting and turning through the pages, being caught off guard and by surprise at every turn. This book was entertaining and refreshing, I love being wrong with my theory on how the story will end up. And man, was I wrong!
