More Dragonfire!

August 4, 2010 at 9:23 am (Deborah Cooke, New Releases) (, , , , , , )

Hi everyone!

I’ve been a slacker in the blogosphere, but that’s because I’ve been writing. This week my new Dragonfire novel – WHISPER KISS by Deborah Cooke – went on sale! Woo HOOO! I’m really excited about this one, because I had so much fun writing Rox and Niall’s story.

Here’s the yummy yummy cover:

There have been lots of great review quotes already. Here’s the Romantic Times review – they gave it 4.5 stars!

“Cooke introduces her most unconventional and inspiring heroine to date with tattoo artist Rox.  Although the sparks are instantaneous between Rox and the Pyr Niall, each has baggage that makes their firestorm problematic. These highly likeable protagonists invest readers immediately in their hazardous journey.  Cooke aces another one!”

You can read an excerpt from WHISPER KISS on my site, right HERE. You can read more quotes on my blog, right HERE. You can visit me on Facebook, right HERE.

Right here and now, I think we should have a contest. (Don’t you?) So, tell me what you think is SEXY about dragon shape shifters – or even about one of my Pyr dragon dudes. I’ll pick a winner on Monday August 9 – the winner will get a signed copy of WHISPER KISS.

BOM: Winter Kiss, Deborah Cooke

September 27, 2009 at 1:11 pm (Book of the Month Club, Deborah Cooke, General, New Releases) (, , , , , , , )

Publisher: Signet Eclipse
Release Date: Nov 3, 2009
ISBN: 978-0-451-22843-7

The mysterious Dragon’s Blood Elixir gives immortality to Magnus, the Pyr’s greatest enemy, and his minions. The Pyr must destroy this source of power, and outcast Delaney vows to complete the quest himself. Delaney was exiled because of his dangerous impulses, and success in eliminating the Elixir will either redeem him or end his suffering.
But his plans don’t take into account his sudden firestorm—or fiery Ginger Sinclair. The firestorm revitalizes Delaney, restoring him to his old self. And when Ginger learns about Delaney’s mission, she realizes she cannot resist a strong man with a noble agenda.

Deborah Cooke continues on her epic journey of the life struggles of the Pyr, she takes a refreshing turn and delves into the possibility of the superior intelligence of infants. The Buddhists in Asia believe that their beloved Dali Lama is reincarnated over and over again throughout the eons, compiling his knowledge and wisdom. Deborah examines that theory with her own oracle in Winter Kiss. The theory that an infant can pass on knowledge given her from a higher source. Whether she understands what she is passing along isn’t quite as important as getting people to listen to her. As we humans struggle with our divine path, so does Delany, rebuking the signs bestowed upon him. Believing his way is the only resolution to the Pyr’s dilemma. In this, Delany struggles against the gift given to him, to carry out the destiny he believes to be true.

I certainly didn’t struggle against the gifts Deborah bestowed upon me in Winter Kiss. I blazed right through this novel, holding my breath most of the time. Panting a little, I admit, through some very hot romantic scenes. Exhaling as the characters started piecing together the signs to solve their latest enigma. Enjoying as I do, reading a novel that, even in the tiniest ways I can relate to my own life. (and no, I’m not referring back to the sexy parts, wink, wink.) Instead, I reflect on the main characters and their love of farming.  Thomas Jefferson once stated, “…cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens…” God’s little signs pointing the way down my own proper path, I suppose.

BOM: Amazon Ink, Lori Devoti

August 28, 2009 at 5:00 am (Book of the Month Club, General, New Releases, Reviews) (, , , , )

amazonink250webPublisher: Pocket Books
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Release Date: May 26, 2009
ISBN: 978-1439154274

It’s been ten years since Melanippe Saka left the Amazon tribe in order to create a normal life for her daughter, Harmony. True, running a tattoo parlor in Madison, Wisconsin, while living with your Amazon warrior mother and priestess grandmother is not everyone’s idea of normal, but Mel thinks she’s succeeded at blending in as human.

Turns out she’s wrong. Someone knows all about her, someone who’s targeting young Amazon girls, and no way is Mel going to let Harmony become tangled in this deadly web. With her mother love in overdrive, Ms. Melanippe Saka is quite a force…even when she’s facing a barrage of distractions — including a persistent detective whose interest in Mel goes beyond professional, a sexy tattoo artist with secrets of his own, and a seriously angry Amazon queen who views Mel as a prime suspect. To find answers, Mel will have to do the one thing she swore she’d never do: embrace her powers and admit that you can take the girl out of the tribe…but you can’t take the tribe out of the girl.

Hi everyone! I sincerely hope that you’ve been enjoying the summer as I have. Playing taxi to my increasingly busy teenagers, working, and still trying to get in the occasional barbeque, I barely found time to read Lori’s latest. Barely was the key word so you know I did and here it is!

I really wasn’t sure how I’d appreciate such a strong female character, but Mel kinda grew on me. It was quite entertaining to watch her struggles as a Mom with a teen, since I can so relate to that! I reflected back on my own family frequently throughout the novel. Isn’t it true that all families have skeletons in their closet and as our children mature, we decide when and if to reveal them. Mel I think it’s time to explain the Amazons in the front yard even if you have a clever cover story. Children these days are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. If you think you know when your child is lying, look at it from their eyes as well. Your child more than likely knows she is being lied to. I found this book to be very hip, up to date, and dead on,  repeatedly a typical day in the life of a teenage girl. Drama, drama, drama! Lori brings alluring mystique, and non stop excitement to a basic who dunnit, with a very interesting history lesson of an extinct and mythical culture. I even liked the who dunnit part, I usually don’t read mysteries well, but this one kept me turning pages and guessing until the end.  So if you want  an intriguing mystery that’s written for today’s mom with a little SciFi thrown in for good measure. Read Lori Devoti’s new book, Amazon Ink! You’ll have a great time and maybe gain a little insight as to which battles you should pick.

Release Day and CONTEST!

August 4, 2009 at 5:00 am (Marcia Colette, New Releases) (, )

It’s here!  It’s here!  I’m talking about the release day for STRIPPED.  I’m so thrilled to finally see this book come to light because I’ve been wondering for the longest time how Alexa, my hybrid-werewolf heroine, met up with her full-blooded mate Matthieu York.  And in case you’re wondering what I mean by that, Half Breed takes place four years later, even though it was my first book published.

So, I leave you with a blurb, a book trailer to entice and entertain, and the chance to win a FREE copy.  You have until 12:01 am EST on Friday to leave a comment in the comment section and I’ll choose one winner later that day.  Since this is an ebook, international entires are welcomed.  Enjoy!  😀

Samhain Publishing
ISBN: 978-1-60504-640-2

Someone wants their perfect weapon back, only she’s not coming quietly.Alexa Wells wants her life back. She’s just not sure what that life was. The memories inside her head—a stripper’s—aren’t hers, and before she humiliates herself onstage one more time, she sets out to collect the scattered pieces of her mind. The trail leads to Boston, charges of identity theft and murder, and the real bombshell: a forgotten werewolf lover who insists she’s a werewolf hybrid.

Matt York doesn’t care that she looks at him like he’s been smoking crack between court cases. Now that he has her back he’s not about to let her go it alone, even if she can easily kick ass and take names all by herself. Amnesia only scratches the surface of her problems, and like it or not, she’s stuck with him.

She’s also stuck with Robert Gamboldt, a venture capitalist who’s not above murdering his way to the top. He’s not about to lose his prize possession without playing dirty. It’s a simple enough offer. Be his personal assassin, or go to jail.

With options like that, it’s enough to make a hybrid go full-blood.

Read the first chapter here.

Amazon Ink is in the wild…

May 27, 2009 at 1:12 pm (General, Lori Devoti, New Releases)

Amazon Ink, urban fantasyYesterday was the official release day for Amazon Ink, and I wanted to blog here today about the shifters in it, but there is a tiny problem…the fact that there ARE shifters in AI doesn’t come out until a really good way into the book. So, I can’t really talk about how I used them. Sigh.

Instead, let’s talk totems. Animal totems are hugely important in Amazon Ink. I’ve used them in other books too, but not as obviously.

Animal totems are frequently used as spiritual guides. Seeing a bear in a dream, for example, may mean you need to take things slow and give them more careful consideration. Bears are courageous and strong too—perhaps that is the power you need to tap into. A leopard, however, is more active and aggressive, and snakes may be charismatic but vain. (And all of these will vary a bit depending on which culture you look at.)

In Amazon Ink, my Amazons have two totems–one for their tribe and one for them personally. They choose their personal totem and have it tattooed on their right breast around puberty. Their family totem is whatever their mother’s family totem was and there are only twelve animals used. Through these tattoos they gain the strength of their totems. So, choosing their personal totem is a huge decision.

In the book, I don’t divulge every characters totem–it is rather personal information, but for example I gave a hearth keeper a bee and a warrior a horse because to me those are the strengths those characters would have wanted to play up.

So, if you could pick your personal totem, what would it be? What animal strength or talent would you like to add to your own? Here’s a web site to help you with your choice…

Or will their enemies steal their one chance at happiness?

Jennifer St Giles let me say first your Shadowmen Series is da BOMB!

I’ll admit it took me longer to absorb the story lines that were taking shape in Bride of the Wolf.  At first I kept blaming my busy schedule for my extended reading time. However, then I realized about halfway through Bride of the Wolf that the real reason was that the story was so jam packed full of details that I was slowing my reading down in order to let it all soak in.

Absorb I did, the vibrant descriptions of the locations in which Bride of the Wolf took place had me reminiscing warmer climates as I suffer through my first turbulent spring in Michigan.  The tumultuous experiences of the characters often brought perspective to life’s little nuances. I found myself pausing throughout my reading to send heartfelt thanks to my GOD for the little joys he brings to me in life.  To re-experience the innocence of First Love is a wonderful gift that Jennifer St. Giles has bestowed upon us all in Bride of the Wolf.  Thank You Jen! If first love doesn’t entice you, Jennifer’s attention to detail will. Jennifer pulls out all the stops in Bride of the Wolf with non stop action, paranormal adventure, and even food!  It’s wrapped up neatly in a yummy tamale just for you!  (Note to self: must look up the delectable recipes from this book) (Note to Jennifer: Do you have said recipes? Maybe we can post them in this Book of the Months post discussion for Bride of the Wolf.

So all you avid paranormal junkies grab your fork and dig in to this one!

From this reviewers perspective it was a savory morsel!  When is dessert?

Taming The Fire Hits The Shelves!

April 28, 2009 at 7:15 am (Larissa Ione, New Releases)

I’m so excited! This is Sydney Croft’s (my pen name with Stephanie Tyler) fourth ACRO book, but it’s our first shapeshifter romance!

Now, if you’re familiar with the Croft books, you know they are extremely erotic and full of over-the-top science fiction and paranormal adventure…and Taming is no exception. Our shapeshifter is an escapee from an evil agency called Itor, which is the company that created her.

Before they captured her, she belonged to a peaceful clan of therianthropes, which, in her case, means that her people had animal souls but didn’t actually shift. Not until Itor got hold of her, anyway.

They brutalized her and her people in labs, experimenting on them to create the perfect weapon — a human who can shift into an animal — but in doing so, they killed every one of her people but her. After using her as a killer on a leash, they deemed her a failed experiment, and after she escaped, they intended to hunt her down and kill her.

She has gone into hiding, but her problem is the beast inside her — it is enraged, hating humans to murderous extent. In order for Ulrika to control her inner beast, she must go to extremes, dominating them sexually in extreme BDSM pleasure houses.

Enter our hero, Trance, who is an agent for the good guys — ACRO. He’s a former Dom, well acquainted with the lifestyle he must covertly enter, and perfect for the job of capturing Rik before Itor gets her.

So anyway, this is our shifter story. I’ll paste the blurb and link for more information below!

He came to the underground London club for a night of extreme sex play with the enigmatic “Mistress Rik”. But the Special Agent known as Trance is really on a search-and-rescue mission to keep her alive. Part predator, Ulrika “Rik” Jaegar possesses feral powers that make her a danger to others – and to herself. That’s why the Agency for Covert Rare Operatives (ACRO) wants to recruit her to their side. To do so, Trance will have to pull off the impossible: capture and control Rik, both woman and beast.

On the run from the deadly agency that changed her into a pleasure-seeking shape shifter, Rik uses sex to rein in her own raging desires. Operating on pure instinct, she trusts no one – especially the magnificent alpha male with the power to seduce her into submission. An undercover agent with unique hypnotic gifts, Trance is surprised by his instinct to hold Rik and keep her safe – but he has a job to do. And as he hunts her down, as Rik and Trance are thrust into the ultimate game of domination and submission, they’ll enter a place where surrender is their sole hope of survival – and the only thing that can tame the wild beast in both of them?
